Why Everyone Should Enjoy A Daily Juice!
To be completely honest – I don’t really like eating piles of bitter green vegetables, neither do I relish eating raw carrot, and I’m not really a fan of broccoli either. I do know however that these vegetables are nutrient-dense and I want them in my body! I also feel I have a responsibility to ensure my family gets to enjoy all the nutrients they deserve, which is why I have a daily juicing routine!
Experts recommend at least 6 to 8 servings of fruit and vegetables every day. That is a massive amount of whole foods to pack into your belly, and the task alone is quite time-consuming too. Without juicing I don’t feel we’d be able to tick all the boxes on our fruit and vegetable intake, so there would be a gap to fill and this is where juicing fills the void.
Juicing floods the body with vitamins, minerals, enzymes, antioxidants and micronutrients (essential elements required in small quantities throughout life to orchestrate a range of physiological functions to maintain health).
When I drink juice I can actually feel my body perk up. I’ve been drinking juice for so many years now that I really feel the positive effects, and when it goes a couple of days without fresh juice I actually start to crave it.
Why Everyone Should Enjoy A Daily Juice!
Hydration
Our bodies need water! Many fruits and vegetables contain a significant amount of water and juicing releases the water they hold, so when you drink the juice you get hydrated as well as a big hit of vitamins and minerals.
For people that struggle to drink enough water in the day, drinking juice could be the answer. Juicing helps you meet your daily requirement of water, helping to hydrate your internal organs so they function optimally.
Liquids Are Easier To Digest
Liquids are so easy to consume, and much kinder on your digestive system to process. It takes a whole lot less energy to digest liquids than solids, so when you juice you give your digestive system a well-deserved break.
Juicing has the advantage of taking all the nutritional value from your fruits and vegetables and packing them into liquid form so they are easy to digest and your body can absorb the nutrients effectively. When you drink a juice the vitamins, minerals, and enzymes are quickly absorbed into your bloodstream.
Put simply – when you drink juice you are fuelling your body with a very easy-to-digest form of nutrition.
Boost Your Energy Levels
It is no surprise that drinking fresh juice can enliven your body. The vitamins, nutrients, and antioxidants contained in those raw whole fruits and vegetables are abundant. This will power you through the day and sustain real energy.
It is also very powerful to have such an abundance of antioxidants – this will reduce the oxidative stress placed on your body due to life’s environmental and external pressures.
Easily Get Those Daily Fruit & Vegetable Serves
If you make juicing a part of your everyday life, you’ll likely consume far more fruits and vegetables than you would if you had to eat them in whole form.
Juicing makes getting your recommended daily intake of fruits and vegetables so much easier. If you had to chow down all those serves as whole fruits and vegetables it would be quite daunting, and time-consuming! However, a juice can be swiftly prepared, and drunk in just minutes.
It might also be that you are not a major fan of some fruits and vegetables so using these in juicing is a perfect way to incorporate them, mask their taste, and ensure you get a wide and varied array of fresh fruit and vegetables.
Optimal Health & Prevention Of Illness
It is no secret that eating more fruits and vegetables gives you the best chances of good health. The abundant nutrients in fresh fruit and vegetables will improve your immunity and help arm your body with anti-cancer nutrients that can ward off cancer cells.
Juicing will give your immune system a real boost which in turn will keep you healthy and well. Many juices, especially green vegetable juices, are generally alkaline in nature, so drinking these will ensure the pH levels in our bodies sits towards the alkaline side of the scale, which will also facilitate good health.
The multitude of nutrients absorbed from juicing will help protect against cardiovascular disease, cancer, and various inflammatory diseases, like rheumatoid arthritis.
By drinking juices you help your body to naturally detox by providing essential minerals and nutrients that the body needs to effectively get rid of toxins in the liver, colon, and other organs.
Gut Health
So much research shows that a healthy gut is key to good health. Even Hippocrates, 2000 years ago, said that, “All disease begins in the gut”.
Vegetables are one of the best sources of prebiotics, so packing them into a juice is a great idea to improve gut health. Light green, dark green and yellow coloured vegetables are rich in carotene, Vitamin C and E and folate that help fight colon cancer. Ginger is another ingredient that aids digestion and can heal an upset stomach, plus it is touted to have numerous other health benefits so make sure you add ginger root to all of your juicing!
Get A Hit Of Wellness
Once you become an avid juicer you will work out which fruits and vegetables make you feel a certain way, and you can juice for purpose. You’ll then be able to tailor your juices to suit your mood, or whip up something that you know will give you that lift you need.
Plus, if you feel energised, and your body is filled up with great fuel, you are more likely to embrace life in a positive way and feel much lighter and brighter!
Tips To Help Make Your Juices Amazing!
- Get into the habit of juicing daily – your body will love you for it and over time you will become addicted to the way it makes you feel.
- Drink your juice as soon after you prepare it as possible, so as to retain the maximum amounts of nutrients and enzymes.
- If your juice is thick you may like to dilute it with a little filtered water.
- You may enjoy your juice chilled, in which case you might like to add a few ice blocks into your juicy creation or store the fruit and vegetables in the fridge so they are chilled when you juice them.
- My perfect juice is about an 85:15 vegetable: fruit ratio. The aim is to have as many vegetables, especially greens, in your juice, but in order to make it delicious, I usually need to add some fruit. Green apples, lemons, limes, and cucumbers are perfect to take away the bitter greens flavour.
- Be ‘juice ready’ – buy some big containers that fit between the shelves in your fridge, and when you get home from grocery shopping each week pre-cut all your vegetables so they are ready to pop in the juicer at any moment.
