A Plant-Based Kids Birthday Party
This weekend is my daughter’s 10th birthday party and she has settled on a roller skating party with 10 of her friends. She is so excited about hanging out with her friends, but more than anything, she is super excited to be able to eat absolutely everything on the party table!
Whenever she goes to other kids parties we know there will be very little there that is plant-based and she is ok with that. I always make sure I check in with the parent who is organising the party to see what types of things they will be offering, but also to give them the ‘heads up’ that Ruby will not want to eat the cake as that seems to be the part that other parents struggle with most. I find that once I know what will be on offer I can get organised enough to provide something comparable for her – we usually discreetly sneak this in to the host without any fuss.
She has never been particularly bothered by this as long as she had something there she could eat but I guess more than anything it makes me feel confident that she won’t feel left out. The main items I am always conscious of are the party bags and the cake. Usually, there are chips or popcorn and fruit and we make sure we feed her up before she goes.
So what is on the menu I hear you ask?
The menu for this weekend is as follows:
Fruit & Marshmallow Chocolate Kebabs
I’m going with her favourites:
- Choc coated strawberries
- Kiwi fruit
- Banana
- Blueberries
- Marshmallows
Standard marshmallows contain gelatine so you will need to seek out plant-based options. We are going with this brand as they are strawberry flavoured!
In Perth, you can purchase them along with a range of other lollies and chocolates from:
La Vida Vegan Grocery
290C Cambridge Street
Wembley
Apple & Cinnamon scrolls
‘Sausage’ Rolls
Caramel Crunch Popcorn
Tasty Hummus and Corn Chips
She has also requested Quorn vegan nuggets and sauce… and what the birthday girl wants, the birthday girl gets! You can purchase these at both Coles and Woolworths supermarkets in the frozen food aisle.
Plus, her cake is being made by the gorgeous Alinta at Cakes by Ace & Beanie. It will be in shape of a horses head… similar to this one. 🙂 We have certainly pushed the limits as it will be vegan, nut-free, coconut-free and as additive and preservative free as possible! Thank goodness Ali is across all of this type of thing.
The party bags will be filled with:
- Darrell Lea red liquorice
- A Chupa Chup
- Eco Vital Fruity snakes
- A party favour that is yet to be decided!
I will include an update next week to let you know what she thought and whether her friends even realised that the food was all vegan. My guess is they won’t as I have found the very rarely do.
